As Duke University’s nationally renowned official dance team, the Dancing Devils is a group dedicated to dance performance to enhance school spirit. The Dancing Devils can be seen performing in Cameron Indoor Stadium during Men’s and Women’s home basketball games!
In addition to our commitment to precision dance performance and spirit at Duke athletic events, the Dancing Devils travel to Daytona Beach, Florida every spring to represent Duke at the National Collegiate Cheer & Dance Competition, hosted by the National Dance Association. The team is proud to represent Duke with several top finishes in recent years. In 2006, the Dancing Devils’ performance was nationally televised on CBS Sports for a fifth-place finish in 2008. In 2009, the Dancing Devils were ranked sixth in the nation, in 2010, the Dancing Devils were nationally televised for their fifth-place finish and most recently, the Dancing Devils received third-place in the college Division 1 jazz category at the Dance Team Union Competition in Las Vegas in 2018.
The team’s performance style is predominately a mix of hip-hop and jazz dance. However, all of our members come from very diverse dance backgrounds. We have former ballerinas, jazz and hip-hop competition dancers, high school dance team members, and even some with gymnastics and cheerleading backgrounds.
The Dancing Devils are involved around campus and within the community as well. The team annually hosts a “Dance Day” for Girl Scouts to teach them about dance and cheer and have a fun day of learning routines and skills for young girls. Also, the team is routinely invited to perform in campus-wide events such as the Homecoming Pep Rally, Countdown to Craziness, Duke Dance Marathon, and various other organizations’ programs and events.
